Five of the Best is giving away a romantic feast for two at the Adelphi Hotel’s Om Nom Kitchen and Dessert Bar. Valued at $330, the prize includes seven delectable courses for you and your Valentine, served from 5.30pm on February 14.
Om Nom’s executive pastry chef Jo Ward* has created a special Valentine menu, starting with her strangely wonderful foie gras parfait cone with milk chocolate and hazelnut, followed by fresh South Australian oysters with gin-and-tonic foam.
Sautéed forest mushrooms are the next course, with crisp pastry twists, mozzarella foam and thyme shortbread, followed by duck, smoked vanilla mash, fresh summer cherries and black cherry puree (and if meat doesn’t float your boat, there are vegetarian options).
After a nitro palate cleanser, you’ll be on to Joanne’s favourite dessert, a celebration of summer peaches (pictured) with poached peach, vanilla custard, white peach sorbet, peach jelly, crystalised rose petals and raspberry rose curd.
Save a little room for the petit fours, served with tea or coffee.

She loves introducing savoury elements to her desserts, and surprises her diners with unexpected flavours and textures.
“I love experimenting with food and seeing someone’s face light up because of something I’ve created,” Jo says. “Plating up is my favourite part of the job so expect some seriously ‘Instagrammable’ desserts that taste just as good as they look.”
