Sharing a winter roast has to be the tastiest way to warm yourself from the inside out.
Fans of slow-roasted meat are in for a treat in June, otherwise known as the roast month in Victoria. More than 100 roasted feasts and workshops are planned across the state for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival’s Roast Collection. The program has something for everyone, but these are some of my favourites…

Every Sunday in June, chef Mick Bolam will showcase several different locally-grown free-range beasts and roast them to perfection. Priced at $58 for four courses (not including drinks), Epocha’s Sunday roast is also a massive bargain so book early. Look out for Great Ocean Ducks on June 1, Yarrallah Lamb on June 8 and Jonai Pork on June 15.

If you love roast pork, this is the dinner for you. The “Pig Out” menu covers snout to tail in four courses ($120 per person) using Western Plains Pork, with each dish match to St Ronan cider. Book early for this one-off dinner on Wednesday, June 4.

Enjoy a lazy Sunday spit roast for lunch or dinner on June 22 ($45, not including drinks), starting with smokey Turkish dips and bread fresh from the wood-fired oven, followed by locally-grown lamb, chicken and duck over a coal-fired spit roast. All of the meats will be rubbed with Turkish spices and serviced with rosemary spuds, bulgur rice and Turkish salad.

Hellenic Republic’s much-loved chefs Travis McAuley and Anthony Archambaud will reveal the tricks to cooking a perfect Greek-style Sunday roast before serving up three courses on Sunday, June 15 ($75 per person, not including drinks). The meal starts with tasty mezethes, moving on to slow-roasted lamb shoulder with roasted lemon spuds and winter veggie salad on the side. Make sure you leave room for the Greek sweets at the end of the meal.

Chef Jason Jones has come up with a delicious four-course Moroccan banquet with his famous 12-hour roasted lamb and all the exotic Moroccan trimmings on June 8 and 15. The banquet costs $50 for four courses, or $85 with matched wines.
