Five of the best cocktails
at Taste of Melbourne
Food will be the main game at Taste of Melbourne when the cream of Melbourne’s restaurants descends on Albert Park on Thursday night.
But make sure you leave room for a sneaky cocktail while flouncing between restaurant stands. With mild weather forecast this weekend, how good would it be to sip on something naughty by the lake in the spring sunshine? Here are five of the best…
1. The gay pear
The secret ingredient has been stewing for weeks to make this gorgeous cocktail from the Aylesbury Restaurant & Rooftop. Pears soaked in Mount Gay Rum are topped with berries and a generous splash of Somersby cider. It’s more like a dessert than a drink.
Life doesn’t get much better if you’ve got a mini Mamasita taco in one hand and one of their classic margaritas in the other.
3. From Italy with Love
San Pellegrino’s ode to Italy has the bite of peach bitters with a slurp of apple pie syrup and the kick of Ketel One vodka. Bond fans will be in fruit heaven, just in time to catch Skyfall next week.
4. Cointreau Fizz
Design your own fizzy summer cocktail at the Cointreau bar with fresh ingredients ranging from berries and lime to black tea, basil and chilli pepper.
Head to the Sensology Tent and learn how to make (and eventually drink) classic cocktails inspired by the hit TV series Mad Men. Think whiskey sours, vodka gimlets and a lazy old fashioned.Taste of Melbourne runs from November 15-18 at Albert Park’s Pelican Lawn, off Aughtie Drive. Tickets start at $25. Food and drink is purchased using “crowns”, which cost $1 each.
