Lola Berry’s top 5 health food shops in Melbourne
Healthy food guru Lola Berry is famous around the world for making healthy food sexy and fun, but where does Melbourne’s most colourful nutritionist do her health food shopping?
These are Lola’s top 5 health food shops…
This place is not only a health store – it’s an affordable food co-op that’s been operating in Melbourne for more than 30 years. It’s one of my favourite places to visit. It does have a hippie northside feel which I think makes it so special. It’s a very holistic environment. This place is largely run by volunteers and even has a lunch time cafe where you can bring your own bowls. The emphasis is on locally produced, natural and organic products. An inspiring place to visit. You can find Friends of the Earth at 312 Smith St, Collingwood.
This was a place where I first started working when I moved to Melbourne. It’s a super cute health store which also sells organic fruit and veggies, plus it has an organic juice bar. Another great thing about Pure Organics is that if there’s a non-organic fruit or veggie they’ve had to get in for a client, they’ll always label it correctly – they really do care. Cute vibe, and in my opinion these guys get their hands on the best organic avocados in town.
This is a bit of a mecca for health foods and supplements. It has every supplement or super food you could imagine. From the 18 different types of coconut oil to organic skin care ranges. These guys stock the best of the best when it comes to health. This place even has clinic rooms so you can book in and see a practitioner. I practice here myself.
This place is quite new and full of all the good stuff. The Staple Store has this awesome raw sauerkraut from Byron Bay, and you can make up your own nut mixes. This is another south side option for you in Ripponlea. They also make their own raw desserts so you’re in for a treat.
Another fave of mine. The Fruit Peddlers is found in High St, Northcote, with all your high end supplements, plus household health goodies like natural detergents. They also have a super cute organic fresh fruit and veggies section. My tip would be to have a sneaky try of the “really raw cashews” – the creamiest thing you’ll ever taste (and you can buy them in bulk).Super chilled out, quirky vibe too.
