Leanne De Bortoli’s favourite breakfasts in the Yarra Valley
Leanne De Bortoli enjoys one of the most spectacular views in the Yarra Valley from the back door of her family home.
But that beautiful home is also in the middle of one of Victoria’s busiest wineries – De Bortoli’s Yarra Valley Estate.
When Leanne needs an escape from the daily grind of running her family business, she heads out for breakfast. These are her five favourite local haunts for coffee and brekky.
This tiny shop is squeezed between a real estate office and clothing store on the main street of Healesville. Blink and you walk right by. Step inside the intimate space and enjoy delicious coffee (from local coffee suppliers Silva coffee) and lots of tasty treats to tempt you.
336 Maroondah Hwy, Healesville 5962 6111
This big, loud, bustling place is on the main street of Healesville. They roast and grind their own coffee here, as well as bake their own bread. There’s an extensive brekky menu and if you happen to be there at around lunch time, the pizzas are pretty good too. A highlight is their tasty sourdough bread to take home.
256 Maroondah Hwy, Healesville, 5962 4002
Healesville Harvest is right next door to the Healesville Hotel with a good breakfast selection. A great place for a quick catch-up over cake and coffee or spread yourself out on the long table and read the papers.
4. Mt Rael
140 Healesville-Yarra Glen Rd, Healesville, 5962 1977
Set up high on the hill overlooking Healesville and the surrounding mountains, this is a terrific place for brunch (but remember it’s only open for brunch on weekends). Try the omelette and take in the stunning views, whether it’s summer, autumn, winter or spring.
25 Bell St, Yarra Glen, 9730 1905
Situated in the old bank in the middle of Yarra Glen, this is a charming place run by an equally charming couple. Open for brekky only on weekends, but it’s a good way to get the day started. If you happen to hang around for elevenses, you can try some their artisan beer as well.
