Lola BerryNutritionist Lola Berry is famous for making healthy food sexy and fun, but she’s taking the good health message even further with daily yoga and meditation.

So Lola is a natural choice as an ambassador for the Mindful in May campaign, which challenges busy Australians to take a break from our fast-paced, hyper-connected world and meditate for 10 minutes every day in May.

The aim is to get family and friends to sponsor your meditative efforts, with all money raised going to Charity Water, a not-for-profit organisation devoted to making sure people get access to clean drinking water. Over three years, Mindful in May has raised more than $300,000 to build clean water wells in developing countries.

To join this year’s campaign, go to Mindful in May‘s website and pay the $30 registration fee. Then ask your friends and family to sponsor your challenge, with daily help from meditation pros.

1. Shop around

There are many ways to meditate, but you have to make it work for you. Not every method is for everyone. Try a few different ways and see what feels right.

2. Find space

Make a space, whether it be a part of your house or somewhere out in nature. Set up a space where you can fully get into it, which is just for you. I love to light a candle and just chill.

3. Chill to music

Now this is against the rules for some people, but I love to pop on some super chill music and get into the zone. I meditate to Chet Faker, Oliver Tank, Lisa Mitchell, Moby… even classical music.

4. Start early

Try meditating first thing in the morning to set you up for the day ahead. I try to do 10 minutes each morning. Then after a week try to go for a little longer. Some people meditate for 20 mins morning and night.

5. Enjoy it

Don’t let meditation be a chore. Go with the journey and let the magic work for you. I find when i meditate that I feel more on point and clear. So get excited to feel clear. Rather than beat yourself up and make it like a cleaning chore that you “have” to do. The reality is that at the start it might be hard and that’s OK. Know that with time it gets easier and there are rewards.
