Timboon’s famously good Schultz Organic Dairy has had a little facelift. Visitors can now taste Simon Schulz‘s dairy goods at the Creamery & Cafe (below), with a new menu from rockstar patissier Hila Perry (ex-Bibelot, Vue de Monde, Fat Duck and Dinner by Heston). Add coffee from Market Lane and you’ve got a road trip destination ticking all the boxes, just inland from the Great Ocean Road. But there are many more delicious pitstops in and around Timboon. These are five of Hila Perry‘s favourite places to stock up and enjoy local produce.
1. Berry World
26 Egan St, Timboon, (03) 5598 3240
As a patissier, it’s a real treat to have BerryWorld so close. Their strawberries are second to none, and I love going there to pick up fresh berries for use at the Creamery & Cafe. My two boys also love getting out in the fields when picking season is on. It’s a lovely day out with kids.
1 Bailey St, Timboon, (03) 5598 3555
A really unique and historic location in an old 1800s railway shed – and the spirits aren’t half bad either. The distillery is a great place to stop in for a whisky tasting, and they have a vodka and liqueur range too. Distiller Josh Walker usually has the single malt copper stills running throughout the week, and it’s great to really feel like the magic is being made around you.
1A Barrett St, Timboon, (03) 5501 9736
The Timboon area is such a rich source of quality dairy, and I’m not just saying that because I work at one of the best dairy farms in the region. Timboon Fine Ice Cream is in the middle of town, and is well worth a visit. They have a range of classic flavours, as well as some special combinations. We love the Apple Pie flavour as well as Orange and Cardamom, and good old fashioned Vanilla.
10 Main St, Timboon, (03) 5598 3177
This is where you’ll find me having breakfast on my day off. They use plenty of local produce including our yoghurt and Zeally Bay sourdough and granola. If you’re hungry, go for the generous Fat Cow Big Breakfast.
Shop 2/47 Main St, Timboon, 0428 363 604
Another family favourite. My boys can’t get enough of this old-fashioned lolly shop. Their pick and mix offering is enormous, with something for everyone, especially if you have hard-to-please tastes.
For a taste of Hila’s menu, head to Schultz Organic Dairy’s Creamery & Cafe just south of Timboon (23 Ford and Fells Rd). It’s open from 10am-4pm daily.
