Steve Bastoni’s Mornington Peninsula hot spots

Where do locals go on the Mornington Peninsula for a dose of fun and relaxation? Five of the Best asked actor Steve Bastoni, who made Rosebud his permanent home in 2009 after many memorable holidays on the peninsula.Pensinsula Short Film Festival If you haven’t seen Steve on the foreshore at Rosebud, you might’ve seen Steve on Neighbours, Wentworth or a string of movies including Matrix Reloaded. These days, Steve runs the wildly successful Peninsula Short Film Fest, returning to Rosebud onFebruary 3-5 for its sixth year. More than 7000 people are expected at the event, Victoria’s biggest public short-film screening and a priceless springboard for emerging filmmakers. And while you’re taking in some of the best emerging talent at Rosebud, you can make a weekend of it and check out Steve’s top five hot spots on the peninsula.

  1. Peninsula Hot Springs

    1. peninsula-hot-springs
    2. 30 Springs Lane, Fingal, 03 5950 8777
    3. I don’t consider myself a day spa kind of guy, but once you get me in the hot springs it’s a challenge to get me out. You’ll find me floating here after the Peninsula Short Film Fest; it’s the perfect place to wind down and regain some sanity (especially after the mayhem that comes with putting on a three-day festival). Hot tip: the food’s great too.
  2. Sea Road Ferry

    1. sorrento-queenscliff-ferry
    2. Follow the signs to the Sorrento Pier in Sorrento, 03 5257 4500
    3. Every so often my kids and I like to set sail on an adventure so we’ll pop on board the Searoad Ferry. It’s a great day trip to checkout all that Queenscliff has to offer, but sometimes it’s about the journey and not the destination. The ferry offers amazing views and if you’re lucky you’ll spot a dolphin or two.
  3. The Milbri Café

    1. The Milbri
    2. 1183 Point Nepean Rd, Rosebud, 03 5982 3901
    3. By far the best brekky in the neighbourhood. Their brunch menu offers everything from the classic omelette and avo smash through to superfood smoothies for the health nuts. You’ll catch me here most weekend mornings, but every now and then I’ll pop by for dinner and drinks.
  4. Degani’s at Rosebud Plaza

    1. Degani coffee
    2. Cnr Boneo Rd & McCombe St, Rosebud, 03 5982 3940
    3. I only have one thing to say about Degani’s – it’s the best coffee around town. Tell Tony, Steve sent you.
  5. Boneo Maze and Mini Golf

    1. Boneo maze
    2. 695 Limestone Rd, Fingal, 03 5988 6385
    3. With three little rug-rats to keep entertained, the hedge maze is a saving grace. It’s a great day out for families and the gardens are beautiful. Plus, they have a licensed café (parents, you know what I mean).
